How Much does Therapy Cost?

Therapy can feel daunting, and the cost may sometimes feel like a barrier. To help make it more accessible, you can speak with your GP about a Mental Health Care Plan, which may entitle you to Medicare rebates for a number of sessions each year. Have a look at this and  other funding pathways below.

Medicare

If you’re considering Medicare-supported therapy, the first step is to book a longer appointment with your GP. During this visit, you’ll have a chance to discuss how you’ve been feeling, and your GP can decide whether a Mental Health Care Plan is appropriate. If eligible, they’ll create the plan with you and provide a referral so you can access Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions. It’s a straightforward process, and your GP is there to guide you through each step. Medicare currently provides a rebate of $98.95 per session, meaning that for our $210 session fee, your out-of-pocket cost is around  $111.05 for 10 of your sessions.

Private Paying

Many clients choose to pay privately for therapy, giving them full flexibility without the need for a referral or specific funding pathway. The session fee to see Tigs is  $210 per hour, and appointments can be booked at any time without waiting for paperwork or eligibility checks. Private payment also allows you to access the approach and schedule that best suits your needs.

NDIS

We support NDIS participants and offer therapeutic services under both self-managed and plan-managed funding arrangements where possible. Tigs is able to offer services that meet NDIS quality and safety standards, ensuring consistency and reliability in your care. If you’re already connected with the NDIS, or exploring whether you may be eligible, we can help you understand how your funding can be used for psychological support.

TAC & Worksafe

We provide psychological services for clients funded through TAC (Transport Accident Commission) or WorkSafe following a transport or workplace injury. Therapy can support your recovery, help you manage stress, trauma, or adjustment, and assist with returning to daily life or work. Once your claim and treatment plan are approved, these schemes typically cover the full cost of sessions, meaning little to no out-of-pocket expense for you.

Private Health Insurance

If you have extras cover with private health insurance, you may be eligible to claim rebates for psychological services. Rebates vary depending on your policy and provider, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurer before booking. Using private health insurance can help reduce your out-of-pocket costs while giving you flexibility in choosing appointments and services.

FAS -Victims of Crime

We provide psychological support for individuals eligible for the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) or Victims of Crime compensation. Therapy can help you process trauma, manage stress, and support your recovery and wellbeing. Approved funding through these programs typically covers the cost of sessions, so you can focus on care without worrying about out-of-pocket expenses.
